MANDAN, N.D. (KFYR) - Mandan Middle School students are getting an early start on celebrating Veterans Day by planting a field of flags.

They had to raise more than $1,000 for the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Field of Flags. The school ranks 47th out of 1,085 schools when it comes to fundraising for the event.

DAV’s Field of Flags aims to empower schools and build patriotic memorials for veterans.

The organization awarded Mandan Middle School with 120 flags to plant in their fields.

“It was really fun, getting to set up all these flags and be with a bunch of my friends,” said Emma Scott, who helped set up the memorial. “It was just a cool experience.”

Each flag is supposed to represent one veteran.
