NORTH SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) -- Before snow falls in Central New York, the state's fleet of snowplow drivers are already training for the winter.

The snowplow trucks are actually dump trucks that are "winterized" by adding a plow and wings.

"So the operators are familiar with the trucks themselves, this training helps with putting the iron back on the truck and testing the trucks to make sure everything's working that hasn't been used all summer," Jeremy Johnson, an instructor, said.

The training starts in the classroom, where drivers go over the rules and regulations. Then there's an inspection process before drivers head out onto the road with an instructor.
