SHADE GAP, Pa. (WTAJ) — The Southern Huntingdon County School District is considering the closure of two elementary schools to save on operating costs.

The district had a public meeting earlier in the week to discuss finances. One of the main points from that meeting was the proposed closure of two elementary schools: Shade Gap and Spring Farms.

Spring Farms has been closed since January 2023 due to "a fuel oil release," according to Superintendent Hillary Lambert. Shade Gap is fully operational, but is still being considered for closure for a couple of reasons.

"It doesn't have the number of classrooms that we need," Lambert said. "If we were to consolidate and put kindergarten through second grade in one building, we would have to add on to that building."
