BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — Many people in North Dakota have been paying more for bills in the last few years. That includes both rent and mortgage payments.
On Thursday, city leaders, bankers and advocates showed up to talk about available housing around Bismarck and Mandan, as well as the rest of the state.
Spokespeople from the Federal Reserve Bank in Minneapolis presented some of their findings in the last few years. They say the current interest rates only tell part of the story as to why many people can't afford a home.
"Building new homes, not only the $750,000 homes, but building the $200,000 homes. Building more twin homes, building more options for people so that across the life cycle, there are housing options that meet their needs again at different life stages," Libby Starling,
