A Pontiac-based homeless shelter's website ownership is being held by a disgruntled former employee at a critical time for the scrappy organization which relies heavily on donations, according to its volunteer leader.

Last week, HOPE Shelters got a notification that it was time to pay a renewal fee for the domain but ran into a major hurdle − the nonprofit wasn't listed as the owner, Interim Director Elizabeth Kelly told the Free Press on Thursday, Nov. 6. She reached out to the person, a former worker who had provided their personal information, as the owner, during a rebrand of the site and paid for it.

She asked the person, who had been let go, to work with the organization to migrate ownership, offering to reimburse them for a domain fee. That person then sent an email to the nonprof
