RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation launched an investigation into the Rutherford County Property Assessor's Office.

It comes after a state report found the property assessments are "riddled with errors."

Rutherford County Mayor Joe Carr reacted to the TBI investigation into the property assessor's office.

"It raises concern, and it's very sad because, typically, it's my understanding that when TBI gets involved, something criminal has happened," Carr said.

The TBI wouldn't say what they were looking into but the agency launched the investigation after the comptroller told the commissioners a fourth of the property assessments could be wrong.
