Two people have been arrested after a baby boy died in an attack by a family’s XL Bully dog in South Wales. ‌

Emergency crews rushed to a home in Rogiet, Monmouthshire, around 6pm on Sunday, after reports a child had been mauled. Despite desperate efforts from paramedics, the nine-month-old was pronounced dead at the scene. ‌

Gwent Police confirmed two people from the village have been arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control causing injury resulting in death. They have since been released on bail while investigations continue. ‌

The animal involved was a six-year-old male black XL Bully, which was registered with Defra and had been issued a certificate of exemption earlier this year — meaning it was legally allowed to be kep
