A young boy has been left with lifelong scars after he was mauled by a dog whilst playing in a park.
The five-year-old boy was enjoying a day out at a park on Schofield Street in Mexborough, Sheffield, when he was "aggressively approached" by an unleashed dog. The beast, thought to be a bull breed, "began to attack the child's face and caused injury to his eye, ears and cheeks".
A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police stated: "What should have been an enjoyable experience for a little boy has turned into every parent's nightmare.
"The boy was taken to hospital for treatment, and it is believed his injuries could cause lasting physical scars."
Officers were summoned to the park and a 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of owning a dog dangerously out of control. He
