CLEVELAND, Ohio -- As Veterans Day approaches, Cleveland Grays Armory is honoring one of the city’s most recognizable TV personalities — and shining a light on a side of his life perhaps not many viewers knew.
On Saturday, Nov. 8, the museum, 1234 Bolivar Road, will unveil a new exhibit dedicated to Paul Wilcox, longtime host of “Polka Varieties” on WEWS Channel 5 and a decorated U.S. Air Force veteran. The grand opening reception, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., is free and open to the public.
Wilcox, who died in 2010 at age 85, was best known as the genteel presenter of the Sunday afternoon polka show that ran for 27 years, as well as for his stints announcing Browns and Indians games.
