NEW ORLEANS — The ongoing federal government shutdown, now in its 38th day, is , with more than 1,000 domestic flights canceled and over 500 delayed as of Friday morning, according to flight tracking website .

The Federal Aviation Administration is preparing to reduce air traffic at 40 airports nationwide to ease the strain on air traffic controllers, who have been working without pay since the shutdown began on Oct. 1. Most have been working overtime and are experiencing fatigue, the agency said.

While Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport is not among the airports affected by the FAA’s cuts, travelers flying from MSY to or through major hubs such as New York, Chicago, Houston, Atlanta, Washington, Los Angeles, and Dallas could face delays or cancellations.
