Tony Mowbray is favourite to become Middlesbrough's next manager if Rob Edwards joins Wolves.

The 42-year-old's future is currently shrouded in uncertainty with his usual pre-match press conference, ahead of Saturday's visit from Birmingham City, cancelled.

That came against a backdrop of speculation that Edwards, who has only been in charge at Boro since June, was Wolves' top target to replace Vitor Pereira who left at the weekend.

Edwards has twice been asked about the link to his former club Wolves in the last week and has downplayed the story without actually dismissing it.

That has inevitably led to speculation Boro could be looking for another new head coach, after just 15 games of the new campaign and from third in the league. Wolves are currently bottom of the Premier Leag
