Rob Edwards’ future at Middlesbrough has been cast into serious doubt as his scheduled press conference on Friday afternoon was cancelled amid Wolves’ approach.

Wolves have made Edwards their primary target to replace Vitor Pereira, who was sacked last weekend after their winless start to the season. The Premier League club’s first approach to Boro to speak to Edwards was rejected by the club, who have been stern in their stance on keeping the head coach.

However, Edwards’ future is further in doubt after the club cancelled the press conference that had been scheduled, as usual, to take place at 1pm at Rockliffe on Friday afternoon to preview Boro’s Championship clash with Birmingham City.
