A speeding Midlothian BMW driver who crashed through a garden fence while under the influence has been disqualified for 15 months.

Joseph Naismith was held down on the ground by locals after he collided with several fences on Dalkeith's Thornybank Grove on June 10 this year while under the influence of drink or drugs.

A video filmed by a local resident captured the chaotic scenes as several fences were destroyed and debris was left strewn across a family's garden in the residential area.

A local mum also claimed Naismith attempted to reverse the vehicle before he got out and was pinned down on the grass by two men as police arrived on the scene.
