BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — For the first time since February, Baton Rouge could see near-freezing temperatures early next week.

After a seasonably warm start to November, Baton Rouge is gearing up for a true taste of winter this weekend. An Arctic front will plunge into the area late Saturday into Sunday, sending temperatures from the 80s into the 50s and even 30s by early next week.

A series of disturbances in the upper atmosphere will help pull down a surge of Arctic air from Canada, carving a deep trough over the eastern United States. This setup will help push along a strong cold front through Louisiana by Sunday, bringing in breezy conditions and much cooler, drier air.
