MONTEVALLO, Ala. ( WBRC ) - A group committed to honoring veterans who are interred at the Alabama National Cemetery is asking for volunteers this Veterans Day.
The Support Committee for the Alabama National Cemetery is planning to place about 12,000 flags at veteran gravesites Saturday, Nov. 10 at 10 a.m.
The group is asking that anyone who wants to volunteer to help to report to Committal Shelter 3 for a brief wreath laying and lag placement ceremony and instructions.
Families will have an opportunity to go first and place flags on their loved ones’ graves, followed by groups of volunteers heading out to distribute the rest.
The flags will remain in place until Saturday, Nov. 14 at 10 a.m. when the group is asking for volunteers to come help with that task as well.
