ALBANY, N.Y. — New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced Friday she has signed a new anti-bullying legislation to fight bullying in schools across New York State.

The bill, Jack Reid Law: Protect All Students Act honors Jack Reid, a 17-year-old who took his own life in 2022 after he was bullied for over a year at a boarding school he attended.

Jack's parents, Elizabeth and Bill Reid, said, "After we lost our son Jack, we made a promise to honor his life by protecting others from the pain he endured. The passage of the Jack Reid Law in New York is a crucial step forward, but it is not the finish line – we look forward to building on this progress and advancing similar protections across the country.
