COLUMBIA, S.C. (WSPA) - The South Carolina Department of Public Health (DPH) reported one additional measles case in the Upstate since Tuesday.

This brings the number of confirmed cases in the Upstate to 35, with 38 total reported in the state.

Officials said the potential exposures for the latest case is are still being investigated, and that they expect more cases to come due to exposed family members of known previous cases.

DPH reported that 31 people are currently in quarantine, and that successful early quarantining has prevented the disease from spreading even further during the outbreak.

Officials are reminding people that travel for the upcoming holidays greatly increases the risk of exposure, and that citizens should consider getting vaccinated.
