SHREVEPORT, La. — The Caddo Parish Commission turned its Thursday meeting into a hometown celebration honoring two young artists whose talent is earning statewide and national attention.
Shamari McCoy, 16, a junior at Booker T. Washington High School, was recognized as the first student in school history -- and the only student parishwide -- to earn a chair in the Louisiana All-State Symphonic Band.
Commissioners unanimously passed a resolution praising McCoy’s dedication and perseverance, noting his achievement “brings honor to both his school and the entire parish.”
During his remarks, McCoy thanked his parents, teachers, and faith for shaping his journey.
“I just thank God for the talent He’s given me ... and what that talent has done for people in general," McCoy said.
