NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Wet leaves falling from trees during Friday night’s severe storms can be just as slippery as driving on ice or snow, creating dangerous conditions for drivers across Middle Tennessee.
Strong winds and rain are causing leaves to fall rapidly, covering roads with slippery debris that can be difficult to see in the dark.
“You can break traction pretty easily, especially with all the leaves and debris on the ground,” said Chris Fowle, general manager at Precision Tune Auto Care.
Simple maintenance checks can prevent accidents
Fowle said drivers should check their windshield wipers and tire pressures before getting on the road. He said many people skip routine maintenance on their cars, but winter is the most important time of year to stay on top of these checks.
