ALTOONA, Pa. (WTAJ) — UPMC Altoona has implemented new security measures a week after a violent attack on an emergency room technician.

The hospital has tightened access to the building, added new badge entry points, and installed panic alarms. These changes come in response to an incident where a patient, Bradley Lloyd, attacked a technician, leaving him unconscious and seriously injured.

"Our police responded within seconds of the assault. They were able to surround the assailant, capture him and prevent him from doing any additional harm," UPMC Altoona & UPMC Bedford President Mike Corso said in a Facebook reel Friday. "I am very grateful for the swift and courageous efforts of our public safety team and our emergency department staff."
