ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – The old Arthur W. Booth building, which housed the former Booth Elementary School in downtown Elmira, will soon house apartments and other commercial spaces, after site plans were approved by the Elmira City Planning Commission on Thursday.
On Thursday, Nov. 6, the city planning commission approved plans to transform the former school into a space with apartments and commercial spaces after it was purchased by City Center Apartments, LLC in 2023, according to the city planning board's meeting minutes.
The plan was approved to include 60 apartments and six commercial spaces, which will be built in three phases, 20 units per phase, the minutes stated.
Once completed, the owners of the building say the apartments will rent for around the same rate as other apartments
