A Kent man has been arrested after 20 tonnes of waste were dumped at an industrial estate more than 200 miles away.

The rubbish was fly-tipped by a stolen HGV at Imperial Works in Talke, Stoke-on-Trent, on Wednesday (October 29).

Two days later (October 31), the vehicle was spotted in the area again while depositing a further 20 tonnes of waste when it was stopped by Staffordshire Police.

Officers attended the scene, and two people were arrested in the area shortly after.

A 43-year-old man from Kent and a 19-year-old woman of no fixed address were arrested on suspicion of causing the deposition, without an environmental permit, of controlled waste on land.

The man was also arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, and has been bailed while inquiries continue.
