HOOVER, Ala. ( WBRC ) - Ahead of Veterans Day on Tuesday, Nov. 11, the city of Hoover held "A Salute to Service," it's annual program to honor veterans.

The program took place Friday morning, Nov. 7 at the Finley Center. At the ceremony, the city recognized city employees who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces, observed a flag-lowering ceremony and honored five veterans who were nominated for the city’s Freedom Award.

“For city employees, they’ve transitioned from one uniform to another,” said Dave Buford, a U.S. Army veteran. “They wore the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps uniform. Now they wear a shirt that says, ‘City of Hoover’ and what they bring to the city of Hoover is a sense of duty, perseverance. They show up for work on time.
