As a way to honor veterans, many businesses offer deals on Nov. 11 for Veterans Day, which is a holiday that started for those who served honorably in the military.
Veterans Day honors America's veterans for their service. It was originally called Armistice Day to mark the end of World War I on Nov. 11, 1918. It was made a legal holiday in 1938, and in 1954, the name was changed to Veterans Day, according to the Department of Veterans Affairs .
While post offices and many banks are closed for the federal holiday , a number of businesses offer discounts to veterans and active military personnel. You usually need a military ID or proof that you are a veteran to take advantage of these deals.
These Veterans Day ceremonies are also planned in the Green Bay area.
