ALBANY — A lack of adequate oversight around third-party cost-sharing claims resulted in more than $1.7 million in Medicaid overpayments, according to a new audit released by the state’s comptroller’s office.

The audit focused on claims involving third-party insurers, where Medicaid should have been considered the payer of last resort. That means third-parties, including Medicare and group health plans, should be billed before any Medicaid dollars are dispersed.
