Lucas County leaders Monday discussed whether reducing the county’s jail population and recidivism significantly helps fight local crime.
That was the focus of the discussion Monday during Toledo City Council Public Safety & Criminal Justice Reform Committee meeting following reports by Toledo/Lucas County Criminal Justice Coordinating Council leaders.
“I’m so frustrated,” Councilman Theresa Morris said after hearing the reports. “... People come and turn to us as leaders, as elected leaders, and look to us for answers. But, guess what, we don’t have them.
“So when you’re looking at all of the tools in the toolbox, and when we’re looking at federal monies that are coming in, I like to see them come back here, but it has to translate into making our community safer.”
