DICKINSON, N.D. — A 34-year-old man is dead after an officer-involved shooting near the St. Alexius Hospital emergency room in Dickinson Monday evening.
Police were called for a welfare check around 5 p.m. after loved ones reported the man was making suicidal comments. Officers found him outside the ER, where witnesses say he had already fired several rounds.
Police say they tried to talk with him, but when an officer perceived an immediate threat, they fired, killing the man.
The North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation is now handling the case. The officer involved is on administrative leave, which is standard procedure.
