SARASOTA, Fla. ( WWSB ) - Citizens will have the chance to let Sarasota County officials what they think about plans to replace the historic Blackburn Point Bridge.
A meeting is set from 4:30-6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12 at Church of the Holy Spirit, 129 Tamiami Trail, Osprey. A presentation sharing the revisions to the preliminary design plan options will begin at 5:15 p.m.
Plans are to replace the existing 98-year-old historic swing bridge with a new bridge that meets current standards and provides a safer route for hurricane evacuations.
Plans to be developed will include a single or two-lane roadway with facilities for pedestrians and cyclists and an expected increase in bridge height to reduce the number of bridge openings.
