ETOWAH COUNTY, Ala. ( WBRC ) - Two Etowah County Detention Center deputies have been arrested and charged with promoting prison contraband, Sheriff Jonathon Horton announced.

Robert Phillips, of Gadsden, was taken into custody after an internal investigation. Tips indicated possible contraband activity, leading to a shakedown at the detention center. Contraband was found, and evidence implicated a detention deputy. Phillips was interviewed and admitted to bringing contraband into the facility for cash.

Maya Dudley, of Gadsden, also faces charges of promoting prison contraband and drug trafficking. Her arrest is part of the same ongoing investigation into contraband introduction at the facility.
