A thug who attacked two women while armed with a bottle and torched his room has been jailed for nearly a decade.

Kyle Purcell targeted the victim in the space of a few minutes in Burton-on-Trent on the night of March 11 this year - pushing the first one over in Station Street before throwing the beer bottle at her, narrowly missing her as it shattered on the ground.

He grabbed the second woman as he tried to get into an Uber and swung a bottle at her head, forcing her to move out of the way to stop it hitting her.

Both women were left shaken but Purcell, 21, fled before setting fire to his flat in the town. Emergency crews raced to the scene and no-one was injured.

He was jailed for nine years at Stafford Crown Court yesterday, Monday, November 10 having been found guilty
