Drivers face long rush-hour delays as part of the M6 is closed due to flooding .
Motorists are being diverted off the northbound carriageway at junction 41 for Catterlen and Hutton-in-the-Forest as the stretch between it and junction 42 for Carlisle south is shut. Lane three on the southbound carriageway is also closed.
The diversion takes drivers along the A6, which runs parellel with the motorway, and goes through rural villages in Cumbria, such as High Hesket and Low Hesket. Traffic is heavy on the M6, beyond junction 40 for Penrith, and is likely to get worse throughout the morning.
