A major motorway in Kent has been shut for several hours following a crash involving a van and a car as police carry out a 'detailed investigation'.

The M20 in Kent is closed eastbound between J8 Hollingbourne and J9 Ashford due to the police incident after the road was previously shut in both directions.

The crash happened just after 12am with Kent police and National Highways officers rushing to the scene.

There have been closures and delays since the early hours and traffic is ongoing.

Specialist recovery teams are currently on scene and the westbound carriageway has now reopened, although lane three remains closed while crews continue their work to ensure the area remains safe for road users.
