BISMARCK — North Dakota State School Superintendent Kirsten Baesler has submitted her letter of retirement to Gov. Kelly Armstrong as she takes a new role as assistant secretary for elementary and secondary education at the U.S. Education Department.
Baesler made the announcement Thursday, Nov. 13, indicating her retirement will take effect Monday, Nov. 24, according to a news release.
During the past 13 years, Baesler has led an era of transformation of North Dakota public education marked by innovation, accountability, and a renewed focus on students, families and educators, according to the release from her office, the state Department of Public Instruction.
Baesler said she’s proud of the team that was built and the culture that was created.
