KNOXVILLE, Tenn — He's the Tennessee son who found a way to make government work, earning immense respect for a lifetime of service.
In his life, Howard H. Baker Jr. became known as the "Great Conciliator" for his grace, humility and wisdom in the United States Senate as well as his time as chief of staff for President Ronald Reagan during Reagan's second term.
Baker, who died in 2014, would have turned 100 on Saturday, Nov. 15.
This week, family, admirers and academics are celebrating the Scott County native's life with a series of events, including an exhibit of his photographs, which was his great passion, a gala, a homecoming tailgate at the Howard H.
