Students at Western Elementary reenacted America’s fight for independence in a student-led play last week.
Teacher Elizabeth Garner came up with the idea as a way for students to connect with the subjects they learn about in social studies class.
The play started out as a reader’s theater, Garner said, where students conducted a table read and recited their assigned portions of a script in class. The idea soon developed into a full-fledged stage production that gives a timeline of the American Revolutionary War, complete with costumes and set decorations.
“We decided to make it where everybody in the class performs a different piece to the whole puzzle of the American Revolutionary War,” Garner said.
