LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ) - Lynchburg Fire Chief Greg Wormser has been placed on administrative leave, according to Director of Communications and Public Engagement Anna Bentson.

Deputy Chief Jonathan Wright was appointed Acting Chief to continue operations, according to Bentson.

Bentson made the following statement,

City Manager Wynter Benda will initiate an external and independent review of the department’s recruitment and retention practices, personnel policies, and internal training protocols. This review is part of our ongoing commitment to strengthening the department and ensuring the highest level of service to the residents of Lynchburg.
