NHS bosses have issued a stark warning, urging people across the UK to speak with their GPs under specific conditions. ‌

Health authorities posted on X, formerly Twitter, to highlight awareness of a dangerous infection - emphasising the critical importance of maintaining current vaccination status . ‌

The recent message says: "Meningitis can be life-threatening and result in permanent damage to the brain or nerves. Speak to your GP if you're not sure whether you or your child's vaccinations are up to date." ‌

People who have fallen behind with their jabs are also urged to get in touch with their GP, with officials stressing that teenagers and young adults face "high risk" of contracting meningitis.
