New research has revealed a concerning link between consuming specific foods and an increased risk of prediabetes among young adults. Prediabetes is a condition characterised by higher-than-normal blood sugar levels that haven't yet reached the threshold for type 2 diabetes diagnosis. ‌

The peer-reviewed study conducted by the Keck School of Medicine at the University of California tracked 85 young people over several years. Participants aged 17 to 22 gave data during initial visits from 2014 to 2018 and returned for a follow-up four years later. ‌
