Kris Kringle wasn’t carrying a sack filled with toys on Saturday.

He was carrying a large golf umbrella in an attempt to keep himself and Mrs. Claus dry during a rain-soaked Niagara Falls Santa Claus Parade.

Those who lined the parade route in the downtown core followed suit. Many had umbrellas and were dressed in rain gear.

Presented by Ontario Power Generation and Niagara Peninsula Energy, the late afternoon parade began at the corner of Victoria Avenue and Armoury Street, then travelled along Valley Way to Queen Street.

The parade featured community groups, marching bands, festive floats and performers.

Costumed characters such as Elsa and Anna from “Frozen,” as well as variety of Marvel superheroes were a hit with the kids.
