Calgary police say one man is in custody after he stole a vehicle and drove it the wrong way down two major roads early Sunday morning.
Police were first called to the 900 block of 32 Avenue N.E at around 2 a.m. after a man was assaulted and had his car stolen. When police arrived, there was no sign of the carjacker or the stolen vehicle.
Shortly after, a car matching that description was reported to be driving the wrong way down northbound Crowchild Trail in southwest Calgary.
Staff Sgt. Mike Sushelnitsky said the driver's "dangerous driving behaviour" required the use of a helicopter and other resources to apprehend him. WATCH | Calgary police deployed Helicopter Air Watch for Community Safety (HAWCS) in response:
New HAWCS will watch over Calgary for the next 15 to 20 years
