CVS Health's prescription painkiller sales put the Woonsocket-based company in hot water with the U.S. Justice Department and at the center of Gov. Dan McKee 's case against his 2026 primary challenger, former CVS executive Helena Foulkes .

But they did not end the pharmacy giant's business with the State of Rhode Island and McKee administration, which has maintained multiple contracts with the company before and after its role in the opioid epidemic became a central campaign issue.
