U.S. Transport Secretary Sean Duffy said "flight traffic is back to normal as controllers return to towers" on the first Monday morning since the end of the government shutdown.

Airports had warned it would take days to return to normal once the government reopened after thousands of flights were canceled or delayed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) due to safety concerns .

Thanksgiving, a holiday for which millions of Americans travel across the U.S. to be with family and friends, relying heavily on air travel to do so, is just around the corner on November 27.

Around three million Americans travel by air via 44,000 flights every single day on average, according to FAA data—and some of the busiest days of the year are over the Thanksgiving period.
