Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Central Region Deputy Leader and Minister of State, Alfred Gangata, has come under fire from political and governance experts for remarks seen as contradicting President Peter Mutharika’s vision for unity.

Speaking at a rally at Chilimampunga Ground in Lilongwe on Sunday, Gangata said DPP members who “worked hard” to return the party to power should be considered for government positions.

He also argued that DPP supporters should be prioritised in accessing the low-cost fertiliser programme.

Gangata further expressed anger over some of Mutharika’s recent appointments, saying, “Some are busy lying to President Mutharika for favours in the name of professionals… where were you when we were toiling and dodging pangas from MCP?”
