JAMES CITY — Olde Towne Medical & Dental Center has launched an emergency drive to raise $150,000 by the end of the year to make much needed technology upgrades due to a cybersecurity event.
The incident took the center out of commission and shut down clinic operations for two weeks earlier this year, said Aaron Thompson, the center’s CEO and executive director.
“We had to make major changes in our information technology system to get back in operation and become compliant with state and federal requirements,” he said.
Outdated servers, installation of new firewalls and more than 40 new computers were needed to enhance the center’s cybersecurity system. Funding was used from other areas of the center’s budget, and unless this emergency drive is successful, the Olde Towne facility will b
