BLACKSBURG, Va. — Former Penn State coach James Franklin will be the new head coach at Virginia Tech, 13News Now has learned.
Virginia Tech dismissed former head coach Brent Pry on Sept. 14, one day after a 45–26 loss to Old Dominion dropped the team to 0–3.
Penn State followed with its own move on Oct. 12, parting ways with Franklin after 12 seasons in the wake of three consecutive losses. The Nittany Lions’ slide included back-to-back home defeats, capped by a 22–21 loss to Northwestern that stunned the Happy Valley crowd.
Despite the recent downturn, Franklin’s tenure included 104 wins and six seasons with at least 10 victories over 11 years, including each of the three years preceding his firing.
