A teenager is accused of swiping an $11,500 bracelet from a Nassau County jewelry store.
A man and woman walked into Kravit Jewelers on Long Beach Road in Oceanside around 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, and asked to see several bracelets, Nassau County Police said.
After browsing, the pair told an employee they would return later and walked out of the store. When the worker went to return the merchandise to the case, he realized one of the bracelets — valued at roughly $11,500 — was missing, police said.
Detectives eventually identified 19-year-old David Beckham Adam, of Jamaica, Queens, as the male suspect. On Sunday, Nov. 16, they spotted Adam driving near Rockaway Turnpike and Peninsula Boulevard in Lawrence and pulled him over.
Adam handed over a New York State driver’s license during the stop, but the document was issued after he had already entered the country illegally, police said. He was taken into custody without incident.
Investigators later determined Adam is in the United States illegally and is subject to removal proceedings. The search for the female suspect continues.
Adam is charged with fourth-degree grand larceny and is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday, Nov. 18, at First District Court in Hempstead.
