Raising Cane’s opened the doors to its first location in West Michigan at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 18, at 3650 28th St. SE in Kentwood.
To celebrate the grand opening, the Raising Cane’s team hosted a community event featuring a ribbon cutting, music, performances by the East Kentwood cheer team, and giveaways.
A special drawing gave people free chicken for a year. Kane Palmer, who camped out overnight for the first spot in line, happened to be one of the lucky 20 people.
The Muskegon resident and his partner, Vilmos Ambrus, arrived at 6 p.m. the previous evening. The pair slept on an air mattress in a tent outside the store.
“Before, we either had to drive to Lansing for Cane’s or just had to wait
