Ian Gillan, the 80-year-old frontman of Deep Purple, suggested retirement may be approaching despite the band’s commitment to tour through October 2026.
In an interview with Uncut , Gillan revealed his vision has deteriorated significantly.
“I’ve only got 30 percent vision,” he told the outlet, according to Music News . “That won’t get better. It makes life mysterious.”
The legendary singer said he now relies on peripheral vision to use his laptop and has adapted to the condition, though it presents challenges.
“But it’s achingly tiresome. It takes a long time to do the work,” Gillan said.
Energy levels will determine when he leaves the stage, Gillan explained.
“I think if I lose my energy, I’m going to stop [touring],” he said. “I don’t want to be an embarrassment to anyone. We’
