LANE/DOUGLAS/BENTON COUNTY, Ore. - As the holiday season approaches, food insecurity is a growing concern for many families in Western Oregon. Organizations across the region are stepping up to provide much-needed assistance.
According to the nonprofit Feeding America, one in eight people and one in six children in Oregon face food insecurity. The holiday season often exacerbates this issue as families must balance higher heating bills with limited incomes.
"Because the holidays are here, the heat turns on, so electric or other heating bills are much higher for people," said Dawn Marie Woodward with FOOD for Lane County.
In response, several local organizations are taking action to support their communities. The Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians has donated $130,000 to Douglas C
