Editor's note: The headlines on this story have been updated to correct that the state is requesting to appeal.
The State of Tennessee has requested to appeal a Nashville chancellor's ruling that temporarily blocked the National Guard's deployment in Memphis.
Davidson County Chancellor Patricia Head Moskal's ruling pointed to three aspects of the deployment when granting the temporary injunction. The first found Gov. Bill Lee violated state law in deploying the National Guard without approval from the Tennessee General Assembly or a formal request from local legislators. The second pointed to a lack of any official order to deploy troops. The third disagreed with the Tennessee Attorney General's Office's argument that a judge could not overrule Lee's decision to deploy the guard.
